Red/purple single flowers in the spring and attractive round fruits in the autumn.
Malus ‘Prairie Fire’ is a superb small tree upright in habit with vibrant deep pink single flowers, dark purple to green narrow leaves and large attractive small spherical purple fruit in the autumn.
Position:Â Suitable for a wide range of soil types except waterlogged sites, although they are tolerant of shade they do prefer full sun.
Pruning: Thin some of the branches to encourage new growth up to a quarter of the branches can removed each year. It is advisable to carry this out during the summer as it will cut down on any risk of disease entering the pruning cuts.
