Overview

A lovely deciduous winter flowering shrub with large spidery flowers of copper orange, tinged red, but appearing orange from a distance. The blooms have a lighter fragrance than other witch hazels and are best viewed when back-lit by the sun and as a contrast to yellow-flowered cultivars. Rich autumn leaf colour adds much to its interest. It makes a wide-spreading shrub as it matures, growing wider than it is high, so allow room for it to develop its natural habit.

Position: Requires a cool, moist but well drained neutral to acid soil in partial shade.

Pruning: No regular pruning necessary. Any diseased, damaged, congested or crossing shoots. Shoots that are growing in unwanted directions can also be pruned out late winter or early spring.
