Liquidambar styraciflua is a large tree bearing glossy, deeply cut, maple-like leaves.  This beautiful tree reaches its peak in autumn when it puts on a breathtaking display of crimson, orange, red and purple.  Corky bark on older stems creates further interest during the winter months.

Position: Plant on a moist well drained site preferably with normal to acid conditions. They will tolerate most positions but for the best autumn colour plant in full sun.

Pruning: Thin some of the branches to encourage new growth up to a quarter of the branches can removed each year. It is advisable to carry this out during the summer as it will cut down on any risk of disease entering the pruning cuts.
