John’s Garden: Brittle Bone Society Open Day

Emily with John and Willow

This special Spring Bank Holiday Monday Open Day is helping a very special local youngster Emily Fellows to raise money for the Brittle Bone Society.

Emily was born with Osteogenesis imperfecta (a genetic bone disorder characterised by fragile bones that break easily). She is challenging herself to complete one mile a day in May for the Society and to achieve her personal challenge badge at Scouts.

Her story has inspired nursery owner John Massey to open his garden on this date and donate all proceeds to the Brittle Bone Society, which has provided essential support for Emily over the years. Emily visits John’s Garden with her Mum and she has a very special relationship with John’s dog Willow, a gentle and much loved Border Collie.

About John’s Garden:

‘John’s Garden’ at Ashwood Nurseries is a wonderful eight acre private garden created by nursery owner John Massey VMH. Informal borders, island beds, woodland dells, a fern stumpery and wildlife garden* are set against the beautiful backdrop of the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal. Regarded as one of the finest private gardens in the UK, it has a wealth of rare plants as well as many familiar favourites.
