Hedging

Conifers such as Cupressocyparis leylandii and Thuja plicata varieties make excellent hedges for the garden. Keep them pruned regularly for the best dense foliage.

Larger Specimens

Larger-growing conifer specimens can make a great focal point in any garden. They can be planted as part of a border, or as a lawn specimen, in groups or as a single tree.

Planting Instructions

For best possible start when planting conifers we recommend the following:

  1. Upon receiving your plants, please unpack them immediately, if they are on the dry side give them some water. The root ball must be moist for planting.
  1. Dig out a hole suitable to accommodate the plant, making sure that the soil underneath is loosened. Slow-release fertilizer can be added.
  2. Add any humus material such as garden compost or spent compost.
  3. Watering after planting is essential, especially in spring and summer, and regularly thereafter if dry weather persists.
  4. Most conifers like an open, sunny spot and a moist but well-drained soil. Avoid waterlogged ground.
  5. It may be necessary to stake and tie tall conifers to prevent wind rock after planting.
