Overview
A late fruiting Dutch variety with a strong, dense, upright growth habit. The pale pink fruit is large and firm, hanging in long clusters – it also keeps well on the bush. The currants have an acidic flavour with a strong aroma and are suitable for a whole range of purposes. Will grow well in most soil but prefers a sunny position and the ground must be free from water-logging. Cropping season: late July/early August. Self fertile.
Plant 1.5m (5ft) apart in rows 1.5m (5ft) apart. Plant in an open sunny or partly shaded north facing wall/fence sheltered from frost and strong winds. Prefers a slightly acid, moist but well-drained fertile soil. Soak the root-ball before planting. Plant in a hole twice the diameter of the root-ball or pot. Mix an organic soil improver and general fertiliser with the infill soil. Water regularly until established.
Fruit is produced on the previous year’s growth and older shoots. Cut back the main branches by one-half after planting. Create a framework of 8-10 branches. Each Winter from year 3 shorten main shoots by one-half. Apply a general fertiliser in Spring.Â
