Pieris japonica Little Heath
Pieris are compact, evergreen shrubs valued for their colourful young foliage. The produce sprays of spring flowers similar to lily-of-the-valley. They are ideal for woodland gardens and borders with acidic soil. Compact varieties also make excellent container specimens.
- Planting: Plant in a semi-shade position, with dappled sunlight in the summer. Moist but well-drained soil, preferably acidic.
- Care: No regular pruning required. Prune after flowering if shaping is needed. For container plants, feed every fortnight with an ericaceous feed.
