Overview
A beautiful lemon and pink flowering form of Lewisia tweedyi. Lewisia tweedyi is a lovely species, with large satin flowers in April/May above fleshy evergreen leaves. Prefers a rich well drained soil planted where the crown can be kept dry. Best grown in the alpine house with some winter protection.
Due to the brittle nature of the flower stems, we are unable to guarantee that the flowers will not be broken in transit.
Other Lewisia species and cultivars are represented in our National Collection. We propagate from the collection, with plants in limited numbers made available to purchase. Most species and cultivars will be of interest to specialist alpine collectors who can provide the conditions in the alpine house to enable them to thrive. Please contact us if are looking for any particular Lewisia, we may well be able to help.
- Planting:Â A well-drained soil or compost is essential, neutral to slightly acid if possible, with plenty of added grit. Add perlite to compost to improve drainage.
- Aspect:Â Plant in a sunny, open position. Ideally should be protected from the sun during the hottest part of the day.
- Care: Feed occasionally with a sequestered iron feed to help maintain compost acidity. Remove finished flower stalks to promote repeat flowering. Lewisias are susceptible to being overwatered. Avoid water sitting in the crown of the plant.
