Overview

A super semi-evergreen fern with rosettes of arching very narrow fronds, which are crested at the tips. It has a more compact habit and narrower fronds than normal Dryopteris affinis. It creates a frilly effect in the border contrasting well with other plants.

Ferns are amazingly tolerant but are generally happiest in partial or dappled shade on any cool, leafy, free-draining soil.

They will add colour, form and texture as well as movement in the garden and are ideal subjects for planting under deciduous trees and shrubs.

Ferns also associate well with herbaceous perennials in the mixed border and add bold foliage interest to a poolside setting.

Or why not try them in pots in shady areas of the garden, under-planted with miniature spring bulbs?
