Overview
A mid-size climber producing a good show of semi-double purple-blue flowers in late spring, with the tepals forming concentric layers each getting smaller, and cream coloured anthers. Has the potential of a second flush of smaller, single flowers in summer which are a lovely deep purple.
Although Pruning Group 2 is recommended, Pruning Group 3 can be used for easier maintenance but results in the loss of early flowers.
Clematis Beauty of Worcester
- Planting: Clematis prefer deep, rich soil that remains moist but well-drained. They require a sunny position, with their roots in the shade of other plants. Keep it well watered during its first Spring and Summer.
- Pruning Group 2: Cut back to the framework of old wood in February, leaving shoots with healthy buds. Prune again after the first flush of flowers to encourage a second flush. Cut back to large buds or strong side shoots.
- Care: Rootgrow (beneficial mycorrhizal beneficial fungi) sprinkled on the roots prior to planting will aid root development. Clematis are hungry plants and benefit from regular feeding with Vitax Clematis Feed.
- Support: Requires a framework to grow on such as a trellis, obelisk or a pergola. Tie in young shoots using a soft tie such as Flexi-tie.
