Time to plan ahead

Autumn is the best time of year to get your spring bulbs planted. This ensures colourful displays during the dull winter months, and pops of colour at the first signs of spring. There’s a use for bulbs in every garden!

Many varieties grow well in pots, as long as they are planted in well drained compost. Pots are great for experimenting with colour, texture and heights. They can make wonderful displays and be moved out of the way once the foliage has started to die back.

Bulbs are ideal for making flower beds and are great to plant amongst roses and herbaceous plants. They add colour earlier in the year before the main growing season starts, and add variety to planting schemes. We also stock many great varieties for cut flowers too.

Plant bulbs into lawns or underneath trees to create a natural look with almost no upkeep. Use bulbs to help to cover areas that are difficult to plant like steep slopes and large areas of thick grass. You’ll be rewarded with a full spring spectacle.

After purchasing your spring bulbs, store them in a cool, dark place prior to planting. Some bulbs are best planted as soon as possible. These include crocus, snowdrops, scillas and narcissi.
