Acer griseum is a small, broadly columnar tree with yellow-green leaves arranged in threes.  Pale greenish-yellow flowers appear in late spring.  One of the main features of this slow-growing tree is its unusual papery bark which flakes away to reveal new cinnamon coloured bark beneath.  In autumn, the tree puts on another display when leaves turn brilliant bonfire shades of orange and red.

Position: Requires a rich moist humus rich but well drained soil in a position sheltered from sun and strong winds.

Pruning: Little or no pruning required.
