Araucaria araucana, the Monkey Puzzle Tree, is an excellent and unique specimen conifer, slow at first but will become large in time. Foliage is a rich, dark, glossy green. It makes an ideal specimen that should be given space and grown at a reasonable distance away from any dwellings. Do not over water when getting established and plant only on well drained soils. BEWARE VERY SHARP LEAF ENDS. Height 2-3m x Spread 1.2m (6-10 ft) variable) in 10 years.

Planting: Prefer an open, sunny spot and a moist but well-drained soil. Add any humus material such as garden compost or spent compost. Watering after planting is essential, especially in spring and summer, and regularly thereafter if dry weather persists. Inadequate watering is the main cause of failure when establishing conifers.
