Woodcocks are waders, thickset, long-billed, and superbly camouflaged. On the woodland floor, where they hide by day, their rust, fawn and black plumage conceals them among the dead leaves of winter. Often the first sign that they are about is a blur of russet and a whirr of wings as a woodcock rises from almost under your feet and twists away between the tree-trunks. In Kerry’s design, the woodcock appears three times amongst the debris of leaf-strewn floor: at rest, in flight and protectively covering two beautiful speckled eggs.

Moorcroft’s relationship with the RSPB grows year on year and we continue to stride forward with the charity bringing a wealth of naturalistic designs inspired by their ground-breaking work, in order to raise essential funds to them. This year, Moorcroft designers turn their attention to birds which have captured their imagination of late and together, have brought us The Art of Ornithology.
