Anemone pavonina originates from the olive groves and hillside grasslands of the Mediterranean. Its jewel-like flowers come in many shades of scarlet red, white, purple, pink, mauve and salmon, all with a striking dark purplish-black boss in the centre of each flower.Ā  Some flowers even change colour as they mature. It is from these origins we have selected our Ashwood strain of Anemones.

Flowering is from late February until early April, and flower stems are usually between 30-45cm (12-18ins) in height – depending on growing conditions. Our Ashwood Strain are found to be hardy to at least -10°C, providing they are in a sunny, well drained position in the garden.

Like many plants of the Meditteranean region, they die down and rest during the summer. In the following autumn, fresh leaves appear followed by further foliage and the first flower buds, usually in February or March. They are stunning in the mixed border or when naturalised in grass. They also look delightful towards the front of any sunny border where, in well drained soil, they will become more floriferous each year.
