Formerly known as Cimicifuga and commonly known as Bugbane. These are attractive architectural plants with large palmate leaves in dark tones of purple and bronze. The scented flowers are particularly fragrant in the evening and are irresistible to bees, butterflies and hoverflies. Actaea produce slender bottlebrush shaped flowers throughout late summer and throughout autumn. They make an ideal choice for the back of a damp shady border.
The only maintenance required is to cut them back after fruiting.
