Overview
A vigorous hybrid of blackberry and raspberry, Tayberries produce high yields of sweet, aromatic berries in July and August. Fruits look like large raspberries. Excellent for cooking and jam making, but can also be eaten fresh. Fruit is suitable for freezing.
Pruning: To encourage vigorous new growth and help establishment cut all stems back to 30cm (1ft) above ground at planting time. Each winter cut out the dead canes that fruited the previous summer and train in the new canes, tying them onto a support where they will produce their fruiting spurs the following summer.
Care: Mulch yearly with well rotted manure or compost. Feed with a high potash feed in February and follow up with a liquid feed during the summer. Water regularly, especially if growing in containers or during prolonged dry spells.
