Overview

Beautiful large lavender-blue flowers produced in abundance on stocky sturdy stems, held above upright, well-branched aromatic foliage. The flowers are produced over many months and are a magnet for bees and butterflies. It is related to the popular and taller Amistad and is an excellent alternative choice where less height is required and makes an excellent subject for a summer container.

Salvias are excellent for summer and autumn displays. They are prolific in flower, loved by pollinating insects and an outstanding colour range to choose from.

  • Planting: Plant from late May to early June, as soon as the risk of frosts have passed. Plant as soon as possible to give your plants the maximum time to establish their roots before winter. Trim back before planting using sharp secateurs to encourage sturdy growth. Plant in well-drained soil in a sheltered, sunny position.
  • Care: Deadhead flowers regularly to promote longer flowering. Feed regularly with a balanced fertiliser to maintain healthy growth. Tender salvias should be lifted and grown under protection during the winter. Prune established salvias in late spring, when the new growth starts and the risk of frosts has passed.
