Overview

Rose ‘Chinatown’ has beautiful highly scented deep yellow double blooms. Floribunda roses have many flowers per stem and tend to repeat-flower continuously from summer to late autumn.

Climbing roses will generally repeat-flower on new growth almost all summer and well into autumn.

Position: Give them an open sunny position and any deep well-drained soil including clay.

Cultivation: They need plenty of nutrients so add Bonemeal and garden compost or well-rotted manure when planting. Rootgrow (beneficial mycorrhizal beneficial fungi) sprinkled on the roots will aid root development. Use a rose fertiliser such as Toprose during the growing season.

Pruning: Climbing roses need plenty of support and must be tied as near horizontal as possible on to wires, trellis or similar. Newly planted climbing roses need little initial pruning. Thereafter prune in October or November removing any dead, diseased, rubbing and crossing stems while some old branches on mature plants can be cut out from the base to encourage fresh new growth. Tie in any new shoots and prune any flowered side shoots back by two thirds of their length. Deadhead regularly.
