Overview
Ribes laurifolium is an evergreen shrub with attractive, sweetly scented flowers in late winter or early spring. The blooms are yellowish-green and hang in pendant clusters, standing out well against the large, dark green leaves. In time it makes a low mounded plant, wider than it is high, and is useful ground cover for a semi-shaded sheltered position in the garden.
This winter-flowering ribes deserves to be better known and, although rather slow to establish, it’s well worth the wait. Give it a semi-shaded position, well-protected from cold winds, on a moist but well-drained soil.
