Overview
‘Snow Queen’ is a free-flowering variety of Passionflower that produces large white fragrant flowers with purple stigmas. Flowers open in spring and last for several days, and are sometimes followed by yellow/orange fruit. Fruit is edible when fully ripe and a strong yellow/orange colour. Unripe fruit is toxic!!
The variety is protected by plant breeders rights.
Pruning: No regular pruning required, however shoots can be trimmed back to keep the plant in shape. Shorten side shoots back to three buds, and keep a strong framework to help produce compact growth. Any damaged, diseased or overcrowded shoots should be removed. Pruning Group 11 or 12.
Cultural information: Plant hardy passion flowers in May/June once the threat of frosts has passed. They should be planted in a warm sheltered position away from any cold winds, and protected with fleece during the winter months. Plants should be kept moist during the summer months and drier in the winter months to prevent root rot. Feed with a general fertiliser in spring.
Support: Passion flowers climb using tendrils so need some light support, such as trellis or wires, for them to cling on to.
