Type:Â Cooking
Colour:Â Green
Flavour: Sharp acidic flavour
Harvest:Â October
Storage:Â March
Pollination Group:Â 3
Position: Apples prefer a sheltered, frost-free position in full sun.
Planting: All the trees sold at Ashwood are containerised and can be planted at any time of year. They will thrive in a well-drained loamy soil, at least 60cm (2ft) deep. Add rotted organic matter before planting mulch and water throughout the growing season until established. Dessert apples need good drainage, cooking apples being more tolerant will tolerate some shade.
Pollination: Apples do not fruit well on their own, needing a pollination partner for optimum production. For the best crops choose a tree from same pollination group or adjacent pollination groups and plant within about 20m (60ft) of each other.Â
