Overview
Velvety bronze furry buds open in Spring to reveal cup-shaped blooms of pure white, with a central boss of yellow stamens and a delicately fragrance: these are followed by deep pink seed pods that open to reveal glossy crimson fruits. The small evergreen leaves are a delicious velvety brown on the underside.
This rarely offered magnolia (listed formerly as Michelia yunnanesis ‘Gail’s Favourite’)) needs a warm sunny, position, sheltered from cold winds, together with a free-draining neutral or acid soil. It thrives in John’s Garden at Ashwood Nurseries against a sunny West-facing wall.
