Overview

‘Kay Parris’ is a fine compact, upright-growing selection of Magnolia grandiflora, making a slender evergreen shrub-like tree when mature. Lemon-scented bowl-shaped white flowers are produced from May even on young plants. The leaves are a dark glossy green with a rust brown undersides.

Magnolia grandiflora requires a position in full sun and a protected position, sheltered from cold winds. Any reasonable deep garden soil will be suitable, including clay soils, but avoid shallow chalky soils, soils which are excessively dry or soils prone to waterlogging. Add plenty of garden compost or soil improver to the soil and avoid planting too deeply.
