Overview

A more compact variety of the evergreen Magnolia suitable for smaller gardens. Beautifully scented creamy white tulip-shaped flowers during August and September against glossy evergreen foliage. Productive flowering when fully established. It should be grown against a sheltered south or west facing wall, requires a rich moist but well drained soil.

Magnolia grandiflora requires a position in full sun and a protected position, sheltered from cold winds. Any reasonable deep garden soil will be suitable, including clay soils, but avoid shallow chalky soils, soils which are excessively dry or soils prone to waterlogging. Add plenty of garden compost or soil improver to the soil and avoid planting too deeply.
