Deciduous shrub with ovate veined pointed green leaves. Produces large clusters of red purple flowers in summer opening with white green centres and fringed edges.
Position: They perform best when given a shady, cool moist root run and a sheltered aspect. For the best purple blooms plant in acid soil and encorporate hydrangea colourant.
Maintenance: Mophead hydrangeas require little pruning, simply thin out old stems and remove the dead flowers to a pair of plump green buds in late spring.
