Overview
A really punchy flavour that livens up Mediterranean recipes – use the leaves sparingly in pasta sauces and scatter them over pizzas. This Sicilian native bears a show of attractive purple flowers in summer.
Pick leaves before the plant flowers to enjoy the very best flavour. They can be stored for up to a week in a sealed bag in the fridge. Save dried leaves and stems in an airtight container.
Best grown in a rich, moist, fertile soil in sun.
Planting: water thoroughly, before planting approx 45cm (18ins) apart. Keep moist until established.
