Overview
An exciting new reverse schlyteri hybrid, between H. nobilis ‘Stained Glass’ and H. maxima. Our best marbled leaf H. x schlyteri hybrid so far, only a few plants available. Lavender blue flowers contrast with the superb, marbled foliage. So far we have found these reverse H.x schlyteri hybrids to be perfectly hardy in the garden, but as yet this new hybrid is untried. Although hardy, this hybrid can also be grown to perfection in an alpine house. Height 20-30cm
Hepatica americana x H. nobilis ‘Stained Glass’ A very exciting new hybrid, between a pink flowered Hepatica americana and H. nobilis ‘Stained Glass’ The very long lasting, lavender blue flowers age beautifully with a pink centre only a few plants available. As yet this new hybrid is untried in the garden but I can’t see why it shouldn’t be hardy. Plant in a sheltered position on a cool, well-drained slope in a light ‘fluffy’ soil rich in leaf mould. It is essential that they are exposed to early spring sunshine, but they must receive plenty of shade immediately after flowering and especially during the heat of the summer. They will thrive under deciduous trees and shrubs or in crevices in the rock garden, performing best where there is good humidity. They respond well to a top-dressing of leaf-mould in autumn and an annual feed of fish, blood and bone in late winter. Height 10-15cm
