Overview
Gentiana verna is an exquisite tiny evergreen perennial alpine slowly forming a mat of narrowly ovate leaves, with gorgeous deep blue , white-throated flowers, opening in late spring and early summer
Gentiana verna needs a sunny position and a moist but free-draining alkaline soil. To achieve this, it is best planted in a gritty mixture of loam, leaf mould, peat or peat substitute, and limestone chippings. A top-dressing of chippings or small gravel is also beneficial.
It is best grown in a rock garden or alpine sink or trough, and is an excellent subject for the alpine house where the beauty of its blooms can be enjoyed at close quarters.
