Overview

A most unusual medium-sized deciduous shrub with unusual corky wings on its branches. It is truly spectacular in autumn when its foliage takes on brilliant fiery red hues. Mature specimens also offer interest in winter with a display of bright red three-seeded fruits.

Position: A slow-growing shrub, which grows wider than it is high, is very tolerant of most soils and positions, although will give the best results in a well drained position in sun or partial shade.
