Overview
This is one of the most beautiful of early Spring-flowering shrubs, its pendent clusters of scented pale yellow flowers borne in profusion on bare stems during March and April. These are followed by bronze hazel-like leaves which unfurl to bright green, having the added bonus of attractive autumn tints.
Corylopsis pauciflora has a spreading habit, wider than it is high, so give it plenty of space to develop. It thrives in partial shade in a free-draining acidic to neutral soil that is humus-rich. It does not enjoy being pruned so only carry out essential pruning: this should be done after flowering.
