Overview
Arabella is a semi-herbaceous scrambling Clematis. It bears small deep blue flowers which turn to a pink-mauve later in the season. A good variety that is well known for its long flowering period, with flowers starting in spring and continuing to flower well into autumn.
Perfect for low ground cover or scrambling over low shrubs. As it is non-clinging, it will need tying in if it’s grown on an obelisk, trellis or frame where it will achieve a height of around 1.5m.
Clematis Arabella
- Planting: Clematis prefer deep, rich soil that remains moist but well-drained. They require a sunny position, with their roots in the shade of other plants. Keep it well watered during its first Spring and Summer.
- Pruning Group 3: Cut back hard in late February or March, cutting back all the old stems to the lowest pair of healthy buds 15cm (6in) above soil level.
- Care: Rootgrow (beneficial mycorrhizal beneficial fungi) sprinkled on the roots prior to planting will aid root development. Clematis are hungry plants and benefit from regular feeding with Vitax Clematis Feed.
- Support: Requires a framework to grow on such as a trellis, obelisk or a pergola. Tie in young shoots using a soft tie such as Flexi-tie.
