The most beautiful white star shaped flowers, up to 3ins. (8cm) across and stained red at the base, are produced during summer, often appearing as early as May; these have the added bonus of a delicious fragrance. Rarely offered.

Calycanthus ‘Venus’ is a recent very rare hybrid selection between Calycanthus x raulstonii ‘Hartlage Wine’ and Sinocalycanthus. It makes a dense bushy medium sized shrub with glossy green aromatic foliage, yellow in autumn. Unusual white star-shaped flowers, with numerous petals and stained red at the base, are borne intermittently over a long period from early summer; these having the added bonus of a delicious fragrance. It is happy in most fertile soils, enriched with humus, in a reasonably sheltered position that is protected from hot sun and cold winds.
