Overview
A delightful medium- sized evergreen shrub with a long period of interest. Arbutus unedo ‘Compactum’ is more compact than other Arbutus but has the same dark cinnamon bark and dark glossy green leaves. Its white flowers in hanging clusters become pink-tinged as they age and give a good display from late Summer often until November. These are followed by orange-red strawberry-like fruits at the same time as the next crop of blossom. An excellent subject for a small garden.

Position: Give it a warm sheltered sunny position, avoiding windy sites and frost pockets. It tolerates most well-drained humus-rich soils and will grow happily in a slightly acidic soil.
Pruning: No regular pruning is necessary but damaged branches can be removed.
