Results of our Moth Morning are announced

Posted on Saturday 18th June 2016

A big thank you to all the visitors who braved the heavy rain to come to see the moths we caught in the Wildlife Meadow at Ashwood as part of National Moth Night 2016. Organised by Atropos and Butterfly Conservation,  events were held across Britain and Ireland from June 9th-11th aiming to raise public awareness of the diverse and colourful world of moths. Although the weather in the morning was awful, overnight conditions were favourable and there was a bumper catch of moths. 190 moths of 68 species were identified as well as a few others that we didn’t manage to identify due to the difficult conditions in the morning. With over 2500 species recorded overall in the British Isles, the variety of colours, shapes and sizes of our moths is truly staggering!

A special thanks go to Mike and Andy from West Midlands Butterfly Conservation who helped organise the event and were on hand on answer so many questions…with a special mention for wildlife enthusiast Fiona from our own Tea Room. Keep a look out for future wildlife events and for wildlife related activities during our ‘Go Wild in the Garden’ event that runs throughout August…plus you can visit our beautiful Wildlife Meadow on  forthcoming John’s Garden Open Days on Saturday July 16th, Sunday August 21st and Saturday September 24th 2016.
