Newlife: our Charity of the Year 2024

Posted on Tuesday 2nd January 2024

Newlife the Charity for Disabled Children has been chosen as Ashwood’s Charity of the Year 2024.

Newlife is the UK’s largest charitable provider of specialist disability equipment for children and young people, offering a lifeline for families by providing life-changing and life-saving specialist equipment when and where it’s needed and enabling children to live their lives to the fullest potential.

Specialist equipment enables more independence

Disabled and terminally ill children and their families face many challenges. Newlife’s vision is that they will be given the equipment they depend on, the quality of life they deserve and the caring support they need.

Specialist Equipment

Newlife provides the correct specialist equipment with their Equipment Grant Service to offer comfort, prevent injury and enable more independence, empowering disabled children to thrive in their daily lives.

Emergency Equipment Loans

Newlife delivers essential equipment to vulnerable disabled and terminally ill children across the UK within a working week of receiving the application, to provide vital equipment when it’s most needed.

Play Therapy Pods

Specialist sensory toys help develop new skills

The charity offers free 12-week loans of specialist sensory toys to give disabled and terminally ill children the chance to explore the world around them through the power of play.

Disabled children often struggle to play with standard toys, so the specialist toy loans enable them to learn and develop new skills, as well as play and bond with their families.

The Play Therapy Pods are a box of sensory toys, available to suit a range of abilities and ages, that can be delivered direct to the family’s door.

Free Nurse Helpline

Newlife’s free national Nurse Helpline offers emotional support, information and signposting to families and professionals caring for disabled and terminally ill children.

The free Nurse Helpline offers emotional and practical support to families…

Their team of professionally qualified, registered nurses have a wealth of experience. They listen with compassion and without judgement and are committed to putting the needs of children and their families first.

Nurses can give condition-specific support and information, while the rest of the Child and Family Support team provides information and updates about their Equipment Services.

Newlife’s Fundraising Activities

Fund-raising acivities help support Newlife

Newlife depends on charitable donations and fundraising through various appeals, such as the Give the Gift of Play Christmas Appeal, as well as sponsored events including Sparkle Day, the Cannock Chase Running Festival, Swim Your Way and the London Landmarks Half Marathon.

Newlife Volunteers

Volunteering is crucial to Newlife, and their dedicated Volunteer Opportunity Centre, based in Cannock, offers the chance for individuals and groups to give time to support Newlife’s charity aims while making new friends. Newlife’s volunteering programme also give adults with additional needs the chance to learn new skills and interact with others in a positive and encouraging environment.

How will Ashwood raise money?

The Ashwood Charitable Trust supports our Charity of the Year, its main fundraising for this coming from John’s Garden Open Days . We are also fortunate to receive a number of individual private donations from our generous customers and friends and we would like to say a big thank you to anyone who supports our charity in any way, no matter how small.
