Daily Mail features John’s Garden at Ashwood

Posted on Monday 31st October 2016

Daily Mail readers have been treated to a full colour double-page spread on John’s Garden at Ashwood Nurseries.

The Mail’s weekly Life feature headlines ‘The bungalow garden one man turned into a wonderland’ and describes how nursery owner John Massey’s ‘labour of love’ has created ‘a glorious garden, currently ablaze with dramatic autumn colours’. A stunning double-page photograph reveals the backdrop to John’s extensive rock garden, a gorgeous canopy of shape, texture and colours, each plant being identified in a pictorial chart.

‘John’s Garden’ at Ashwood Nurseries is a wonderful three acre private garden created by nursery owner John Massey VMH. Informal borders, island beds, woodland dells and wildlife meadow are set against the beautiful backdrop of the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal. It is a ‘plantsman’s garden’ that has an abundance of rare plants as well as many familiar favourites.

This is a garden for all seasons with magnificent collections of trees, shrubs, conifers adding to the interest all year round. There are many fine features including a stunning pool and rock garden planted with choice alpines and miniature bulbs, a colourful lewisia wall, an Anemone pavonina meadow and a charming ruin garden. A ‘hot’ border is home to an extensive collection of South African plants and there is a beautiful wildlife meadow and a dramatic fern stumpery. Throughout the garden, urns and patio pots are imaginatively planted.

The garden has been featured on TV as well as in numerous articles in the national press and gardening magazines, and has been described by Carol Klein as ‘the most loved and looked after garden I’ve ever had the pleasure of visiting’.

Opening Times: This is a private garden which is open for charity on selected dates from 10am-4pm read more
