Hellebores and Moorcroft Pottery: ‘Ashwood Garden’

Moorcroft Pottery’s stunning Ashwood Garden vase celebrates the beautiful Helleborus x hybridus Ashwood Garden Hybrids depicted in their natural setting in the garden of nursery owner John Massey VMH. It is an exquisite design which appeals  to hellebore enthusiasts and Moorcroft collectors alike.

Hugh Edwards, Chairman of Moorcroft Pottery describes the rationale behind the design of ‘Ashwood Garden’

‘No Moorcroft retailer in the world has done any more for Moorcroft and its fine art pottery than Ashwood Nurseries and the legendary nurseryman and gardener, John Massey VMH’.  Inspiration for past Moorcroft designs has come from ‘its magnificent collection of hellebores, cyclamen and hepaticas’ and John’s ‘ large private garden’. ‘Moorcroft designers love Ashwood Nurseries and their trips there with theircameras are, shall we say, not infrequent’.

Ashwood Garden is one of The Second Chance Collection and Hugh describes the design in this way: ‘If Emma Bossons is queen of the hepaticas, Nicola Slaney has probably earned herself the title of queen of the hellebores. She knows instinctively how to make any hellebore on a vase portray itself in a state of continual movement. In this way the designer makes the varied colours and lines sway and mingle together in total harmony. Ashwood Garden lifts the beautiful hellebore centre stage, superbly displayed and there to enjoy. I have no hesitation in saying that Nicola Slaney’s hellebores on ‘Ashwood Garden’ are as fine as anything ever produced by Moorcroft’.
