Lawn Care
Continue to mow the lawn regularly. Repair damaged patches by re-seeding or laying turves. Aerate the lawn and brush in sharp sand on wet, poorly-drained soils or Lawn Top Dressing on light sandy soils. Carry out scarifying, mowing and spiking followed by feeding with Autumn Lawn Food some three to six weeks later. Apply this via a Scott’s Spreader to established turf only and when rain is forecast.
Remember this is your last opportunity to treat lawn weeds with a lawn hormone weed killer such as Verdone which can only be applied while the weeds are actively growing. This is one of the very best treatments for those difficult weeds such as Prunella (self-heal), and Trefoil all of which have tiny hairs on the leaf surface making it crucial to apply the weed killer via a good quality sprayer with a fine nozzle that will deliver a mist that seems to penetrate the hairs and reach the leaf surface. If lawns are affected by leatherjackets, cover with polythene sheets to draw this pest to the surface for disposal.
