John’s Garden NGS Snowdrop Open Day

This special Friday Garden Open Day is supporting the National Garden Scheme’s Snowdrop Festival.

John’s Garden is truly spectacular in Winter: a wealth of both named and common snowdrops carpet the ground along with hellebores, cyclamen and winter aconites. A fine collection of trees, shrubs and conifers provide the perfect canopy as well as giving strong structure. The coloured stems or bark of birches, maples, cherries, dogwoods and scarlet willow shine like beacons while witch hazels and other Winter-flowering shrubs fill the air with perfume.

  • FRIDAY FEBRUARY 5th
  • 10am-3pm (last entrance 3pm)
  • Tickets are available to buy on the day, pre-booking is not required.
  • Admission: £8.00 per person* 
  • Supporting the NGS (National Garden Scheme).
  • Children under 12 are allowed free of charge.
  • Extreme weather or poor ground conditions may force us to cancel, restrict access or change this opening so do check with this website before travelling

Additional Information

  • The owner John Massey, or one of his team of gardeners, will be in the garden.
  • The wildlife garden will be open only if ground conditions permit.
  • A delicious selection of freshly prepared food and drinks is available to purchase from the tea room more
  • We are sorry but picnics are not allowed in the garden.
  • We regret that dogs are not allowed in John’s Garden.
  • Toilet facilities are available adjacent to the gift shop.
  • Sensible shoes are essential.
  • John’s Garden is also open on most Saturdays throughout the year for charity: more dates

Don’t miss our Snowdrop and Fern Spectacular

In addition, the Snowdrop and Fern Spectacular in our Plant Specialities Greenhouse showcases a wonderful display of desirable snowdrop cultivars, one of Ashwood’s specialities, and gives visitors the opportunity to purchase rare and unusual named snowdrops, many of which have been grown here on the nursery. A range of evergreen ferns that are rarely offered elsewhere are also featured.

Be sure to visit the ‘Winter in Bloom‘ Plant Sales House, where you will discover our amazing selection of Winter-flowering plants (hellebores, cyclamen, early bulbs, camellias, witch hazels to name but a few).. plus a remarkable range of trees, shrubs and conifers for  seasonal stem, bark, foliage and architectural effect.
