Ashwood Nurseries

Spotlight on Winter interest in the garden...

We are delighted to welcome Robert Vernon from the award winning Bluebell Arboretum and Nursery for a very special walk in John’s Garden, accompanied by nursery and garden owner John Massey.

During this in-depth fully guided tour of John’s Garden, the focus is on Winter interest in the garden, exploring the wealth of plants that are lighting up the garden with colour and creating a wonderful aroma in the air. John and Robert will share their passion and considerable knowledge of the seasonal highlights.

The scent of Witch Hazels fills the air..
About Robert Vernon:
Richard Vernon, Bluebell Nursery

Robert’s horticultural journey began with a five-year apprenticeship at the Derby Parks Department, followed by a National Diploma in Horticulture from Writtle Agricultural College.

In 1974, he married Suzette, a fellow horticulturist and talented plantswoman. Their passion and hard work led to the creation of Bluebell Arboretum & Nursery in Smisby, which grew from six to twelve acres and has become widely respected among plant enthusiasts.

Following Suzettes’s passing, a hedge of Euonymus alatus  was planted in John’s Garden—a living tribute to a remarkable plantswoman.

Robert is an active member of the Royal Horticultural Society’s Woody Plant Committee and also serves as a judge at the Chelsea Flower Show.
