We are thrilled to announce a very special day in our Winter in Bloom programme. Chris Lane VMH, the UK’s leading Hamamelis expert, will give a fascinating illustrated lecture on Witch Hazel.
This is a unique opportunity to learn all about these beautiful Winter-flowering shrubs. In his illustrated lecture, Chris will focus on Hamamelis x intermedia, how it arose, a selection of cultivars and the people that raised them.
Chris Lane is an internationally known nurseryman who holds the national collection of Witch Hazel in his nursery in Kent, where he has bred many varieties himself.
Chris has worked in horticulture all his life and now single handedly runs Witch Hazel Nursery, in Sittingbourne, Kent, where he holds five national collections, Hamamelis, Wisteria, Prunus (Flowering Cherries), Amelanchier and Parrotia.
He is a long serving member of The International Plant Propagators Society, becoming president in 1995. He also serves on the RHS Woody Plant and Trials Committees. In 2024, he was awarded his VMH, the RHS’s highest accolade.
