Hybrid Musk roses bear a profusion of beautiful musk-scented flowers held in large trusses in June.

Position: Give them an open sunny position and any deep well-drained soil including clay.

Cultivation: They need plenty of nutrients so add Bonemeal and garden compost or well-rotted manure when planting. Rootgrow (beneficial mycorrhizal beneficial fungi) sprinkled on the roots will aid root development. Use a rose fertiliser such as Toprose during the growing season.

Pruning: Hybrid Musk roses need little initial pruning other than a light trim and the removal of any dead, diseased, rubbing and crossing stems. Once established lightly prune in July after flowering has finished, feed with rose fertiliser and they will often produce a second flush. Congested growth can be thinned and older unproductive wood can be removed to encourage new growth from the base.
