Metasequoia glyptostroboides 'Gold Rush' is less vigorous than the species and grows to be a handsome tree with a narrow, conical habit, ideal for larger gardens or woodland. It performs best in full sun and moist soil, although is quite tolerant of most situations. Known as the dawn redwood due its ancient lineage, it displays bright yellow fern like summer foliage turning russet and orange in autumn before falling. Given an RHS Award of Garden Merit.
