Position: Prefers semi-shade. Avoid deep shade which will draw the plants up. Good winter drainage is essential.

More Cultural Advice: Roscoea grow from tuberous, fleshy roots (similar in appearance to dahlia) that become dormant in late Autumn through to Spring so it's a good idea to mark where they are planted. They re-emerge in June and flower from July to September.

The top of the crown should be planted 4-6" below soil level. When planting container grown plants they should be planted 1" deep below the soil level. In cold areas, a surface mulch will provide extra frost protection, but good winter drainage is key to winter survival. Well grown plants from multiple crowns will benefit from division every 3-4 years in March-April.
