This Hepatica is one for the collector. A compact evergreen perennial form, which is smaller and grows more slowly than H. japonica var. nipponica f. magna.

Their flowers have more slender sepals and fewer stamens and pistils than H. japonica var. nipponica f. magna. Predominately ivory-white with the occasional pale pink, dark purple or red and very rarely, pale yellow. Flowering from March to April in the wild. The smaller leaves are mainly triangular with acute-lobes, tend to stay close to the soil.

Usually found in small populations on the tops of mountains. Altitude 300-950 metres.
