Glendair, William Moorcroft’s home in Trentham, Stoke-on-Trent, was undoubtedly the place where the famous and discerning artist potter conceived several of his design ideas. The garden of Glendair was home to a fish pond full of carp and it may have been that from this, a series of surreal and dramatic fish designs were inspired. It has not escaped the attention of many, that Moorcroft Designer, Vicky Lovatt, has a special flair for adding a dramatic slant to some of her designs. Along with the name, chosen by Vicky herself, Fishy McGinty is delightfully entertaining, and even dramatic as a concept. Large carp glide around the surface, flaunting their glorious fins and scales before their audience. In colours of green, olive and wine, Fishy McGinty is a playful piece which is destined to be at the heart of the many fish-themed designs to emerge from Moorcroft over the past century.
