Today, Moorcroft regularly revels in the fun and flamboyant appeal of enlarged flowers. Nothing cheers up a room quite like them. For this special limited edition, it would have only been apt to pay tribute to the big poppy. Coloured in tones of yellow, peach and black, Nicola’s Ring of Gold was inspired by William Moorcroft’s rarely seen yellow poppy designs. William would often paint his poppies in tones of either red or orange. However, on the odd occasion (for example his 1906 biscuit barrel) he stuck with green, cobalt and yellow for a simple yet striking design, where waves of foliage grow into poppy spirals. Ring of Gold was based upon this piece and it remains just as captivating to modern onlookers as it would have done 90 years ago.
