Moorcroft Pottery Skydancer Plaque

Of the UK's finest birds of prey, the hen harrier is sadly the most persecuted. Its survival is threatened in some parts of the UK, particularly on the driven grouse moors of England and Scotland. With thanks to the RSPB, ‘Skydancer’ is an exciting, four-year project aimed at raising awareness and promoting the conservation of hen harriers in the north of England. Most people have never seen a hen harrier, but once seen, it is rarely forgotten. This bird is a beautiful, agile hunter, and its aerobatic sky dances are among the most awesome spectacles in nature. While males are a pale grey colour, females and immatures are brown with a white rump and a long, barred tail which give them the name 'ringtail'. This unique design captures their magnificent flight and is brought to us on a never-before-seen round plaque. Every detail of the adult female bird’s beautiful wing span has been wonderfully drawn and painted, while an adult male follows behind and together they glide above the moors. Unfortunately, with only a handful of pairs still breeding successfully in England, the hen harrier is currently a species on the brink. We would like to bring it back to safety.
