Position: tolerant of most situations and a useful shrub for clay and poorly-drained soils. It grows happily in partial shade but bear in mind that the stems colour best in an open sunny position.

Pruning: This Cornus should be allowed to establish for the first two or three years with little pruning. Thereafter prune hard in March to achieve the best coloured stems the following winter.
